Fernando Guerra

Fernando Guerra has been a pioneer in the way architecture is photographed and divulged in the past 22 years.

Fernando Guerra is an architectural photographer. His training, however, is as an architect. Guerra understands the architect’s process of understanding spatiality through wandering, scrutinising and associating ideas, shapes and dimensions. When he photographs buildings, it is more of an examination rather than a recorded perception.

Guerra’s work is regularly seen in international publications such as Casabella, Wallpaper, Dwell, Icon, Domus, A+U and many more. FG +SG has collaborated with many Portuguese architects including Álvaro Siza, Carlos Castanheira, Manuel Mateus, Manuel Graça Dias, Gonçalo Byrne, ARX Portugal, João Luís Carrilho da Graça and Promontório Arquitectos as well as international architects such as Márcio Kogan, Isay Weinfeld, Arthur Casas, Zaha Hadid, Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, among others.

In 2012 he was nominated for Canon Explorer, having been appointed ambassador for Canon Europe in Architectural Photography. In 2015 the MoMA acquired six of Fernando’s projects for their permanent collection, and in the same year Fernando won Arcaid Images Architectural Photographer of the Year and Plataforma Arquitectura’s Photography Prize Project of the year. In 2016 he was an award winner in Architizer’s Architecture + Photography category.

Fran Silvestre Arquitectos was founded in 2005 by Fran Silvestre, architect with honors by the UPV and Urbanist by the TU / e of Holland, Professor of the Department of Projects of the UPV and the European University of Valencia, Director of the MArch programs Architecture and Design, as well as Doctor Cum Laude by the UPV. In 2011 he was deputy director of the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Valencia. In 2018 he won the Victor L. Regnier chair of the KSU in the United States.

FSA has the collaboration in Alfaro Hofmann's projects in Interior Design. He has also collaborated with international studies, highlighting the collaboration with the Pritzker Álvaro Siza Prize.

He has received first national and international awards such as the German Design Award 2019 (Frankfurt), the XIII Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism 2016 (Granada), the Red Dot Design Award 2013 (Essen), the IFCC Awards 2016 (New York) , or the National Competition Fundación Caja de Arquitectos (Barcelona), among others.

His projects are spread all over the world, highlighting places such as China, the United States, Brazil, Croatia or Spain, and have been published in international architecture and interior design magazines. Among them, Architectural Record, GA Houses, On Diseño or Interni. Also in publishers such as Phaidon, Taschen, Thames & Hudson or GG. Likewise, several monographs have been published that collect much of the study's work, such as those carried out by TC Cuadernos, A.Mag or Arianuova.

I am a photographer with a strong practice focus in Photography of Architecture, currently based in Auckland, New Zealand, with an established international practice throughout Australasia and further afield.

I have both a strong sense of home and a wanderlust which goes right back to when I was born in a sandstorm beside a sleeping camel in 1973. Working in many different settings across cultures around the world has had a great impact on my professional practice, which has been greatly enriched by my experience of each particular context: Shanghai and its people, the fruitful silence of a Japanese bamboo forest, the light in Los Angeles, so different to the harsh, more direct light in New Zealand. Infact, I love LA light, so diffused, as if a giant soft box had been placed over the sun. On one particular occasion, standing with my camera equipment in a very suburban street in Echo Park I noticed that I had caught the neighbours’ attention. A few came up to ask what I was doing, in a cutely nosey, neighbourly way, all of them appearing to act as a neighbourhood watch of sorts over the house I was photographing and for each other. I felt a great sense of community and a few of them even made it into one of my pictures. I love people in my photos as their appearance adds a sense of scale and a place in time. I am the author of the award-winning photo-book Rannoch and the All Things Considered series. Photo-books bring together my passion for image, place and language, which started in 2013 with the launch of Portrait of a House, my first self- published photo-book on the Athfield residence in Wellington. Since then, I have started publishing the Ripe Fruit series. My images feature in many books and collaborations including Long Live the Modern(2009), Group Architects: Towards a New Zealand Architecture (2010), Athfield Architects (2012) and Summer Houses (2011); as well as in numerous national and international magazines such as Elle Decor (Italy, UK, Japan and South Africa), Architectural Digest (Germany), Dwell (USA), Habitus, InDesign (Australia), Architecture NZ, Home New Zealand, Urbis, Interior (NZ). I lecture in Photography of Architecture at the University of Auckland, where I have also had the pleasure of offering the annual Simon Devitt Prize for Photography since 2008. Currently I’m represented by PhotoFoyer in Milan, Italy and my work has been exhibited in both group and solo shows. Once I had a man crush on Nick Cave, and I have a penchant for garden gnomes. Oh, and I prefer my martini shaken, not stirred.

Cesar Jimenez is an Architecture graduate from Valencia Polytechnic University. He graduated with honors on his Final Thesis, as well as achieving one of the best overall scores among his colleagues.

He studied one year abroad, at Porto Architecture School. His work has been focused mostly on landscaping projects, architecture and interior design. Along with these tasks, he also manages the account “Arquitectura en Blanco” through different social media platforms. This account has several thousand followers and it has a monthly impact of over one million views. Its mission is to publicize different projects so that they can become a reference for architects.

Area Colectiva is a Mexican architectural communication studio, formed by Mexican architects, that creates strategies. It aims to showcase offices and projects to expand its positioning, worldwide, in specific spheres, with the firm intention of creating “less egos, more friends” connections.

Architecture, as a transdiscipline, requires the inclusion of different perspectives for its analysis and dissemination. The philosophy of Area Colectiva is expressed through the creation of narratives applied to communication strategies, which aim to display spaces created for human endeavor in different typologies: residential, interior design, social housing, hospitality, commercial, offices, multipurpose and urbanism. Sofía Benitez is the founder and director of Area Colectiva, a Mexican studio focused in developing communication strategies for Mexican architecture projects and offices in relevant media worldwide.
