ECGC Bhawan

Short description

ECGC Limited is a Government of India entity, engaged in promoting exports through credit insurance services. This project aims to change the image of Government buildings in India – by designing to perform efficiently in terms of productivity with attention to the aesthetics. The project consists of a commercial office for 300 persons with a residential facility for them. There is a seamless flow from public to semi-public to ultimately private spaces. With the incorporation of parametric architecture, the aim was to come up with the design of an ultramodern iconic structure having the perfect amalgamation of socio-economic needs with a futuristic approach; also creating an environment friendly, energy-efficient building.

ECGC Bhavan is located in a busy, vibrant suburb. The 4.85 acre site is dotted with several old trees and is designed incorporating these natural flows. A public plaza, central courtyard and water bodies create spaces conducive for people to interact and socialize. Almost all spaces enjoy direct sunlight from the atrium. This cosmic energy flow is to increase efficiency and creating a perfect environment for the business to flourish. The complex is decked up with a club providing facilities like gymnasium, indoor games ensuring a global identity and a full life. Intricately designed plazas flowing through the atrium along with the landscape on site create a visual connectivity. Lush landscape with the southwest wind flow creates a cool atmosphere. Water permeable landscape features reduce heating effect. Open plan enables air flow throughout the spaces. The skylight feature provides natural light inside the offices and the intelligent facade glass resists the heat. The terrace gardens keep the environment oxygenated.

The design caters a visual connectivity of green spaces flowing through the commercial to the residential sector. The residential quarters overlook the flowing landscape of the central garden giving each apartment a unique space quality. It benefits the end users by holistically allowing the concept of ‘Live – Work - Play’, along with creating unique spatial experiences which will leave a lasting impression.

This offers an office space that will globalize the corporate identity and take the business to soaring heights of success. The intent is to break shackles and create not just a functional commercial structure but also a timeless piece of art; a sculpture that redefines Government buildings; a symbol of not just modern architecture but of rapidly developing modern India.
