House R

Short description
House r - 'both-and' - The three phases of separation, transition or liminality, and incorporation are all a set of process of passage through this project which responds to and advances the perception of the threshold as a unique transformative space in where two dissimilar spaces collide and take on qualities of their neighboring spaces while still separate from them. Implementation of thresholds helps the project maintain the physical barriers between indoor and outdoor, private and public but blurring the edges in between and creating opportunities to connect these separate spaces which enhances the continuity and movement of occupants.
Upon ascending through the main gate, the occupant enters a zone of transition porch or exterior foyer in which it is not yet part of the house but they have been removed from the road side. Upon passing through the glass door into the interior lobby that leads you to two different parts of the house formal and family, the occupant has entered a zone of incorporation. Upon moving through different spaces, all the elements are reconstituted and work together to perform as a sequence, leading the occupant through the house and transforming a living space into a space of contemplation and experience.
