YI JIAN ARCHITECTS

Short description

Meishan Media Center is located in Meishan City, Sichuan Province, and is the hometown of the famous Song Dynasty poet Su Dongpo (960-1127 AD). The media center includes three important cultural facilities: the cultural center, the library and Meishan TV Station, as well as a series of cultural industry companies such as Meishan Daily and Meishan Internet Information Company. The building is built in a hilly area with a height difference of 19 meters. Architecture shapes attractive architectural images through the stacking of books. The interior is full of fun and enjoyable. By setting up multiple courtyards of different scales, a rich spatial hierarchy is formed.

Meishan has a long history and its rich and diverse culture has been passed down to this day. The interior design is partially based on elegant traditional Chinese colors, such as sky blue, cluster blue, and yellow leaves, and then painted with cultural imprints related to Meishan and Su Dongpo, conveying urban culture to citizens in a poetic and dynamic way, allowing people to experience the beauty of historical culture in modern spaces.
The cultural center is located on the west side of the building and is a place for citizens to engage in cultural activities. It has multiple functions such as dance classroom, calligraphy classroom, music classroom, rehearsal hall, cultural research room, etc. The design concept of the cultural center is to experience the urban living room of local culture. The theme color tone indoors is white. The white perforated panels in the atrium create an interesting dialogue with the sunlight. The cultural center continues the theme of the "Cultural Window" on the exterior facade of the building, showcasing diverse cultural activity scenes through framing in multiple locations indoors, recording the colorful cultural life of Meishan citizens; The top-level cultural exhibition hall once again echoes this theme, stimulating people's interest and imagination. Partial use of traditional Chinese colors such as sky blue and cluster blue, reflecting the dialogue between classical and modern.

The design concept of the library is a reading space that inherits millennium old book carvings. The theme color tone indoors is wood. Meishan was the center of Shu carving in the Southern Song Dynasty, and as one of the three major centers of woodblock printing in the Song Dynasty, it is a brilliant page in Meishan's historical and cultural heritage. The entrance hall of the library is themed around woodblock printing and incorporates Dongpo's "Cold Food Tie", which is known as the "third line of calligraphy in the world". Using elegant and graceful calligraphy to reflect the poetic and calligraphic atmosphere of the library, showcasing the rich and long-standing cultural heritage of Meishan. The distinctive reading space on the top floor of the library, like a mountain of books, will bring unexpected surprises to the public.

Meishan TV Station, located on the north side of the building, has a 400 seat studio and an 800 seat studio, which can meet the recording requirements of various TV programs. The studio space is pure and elegant. The office space of the cultural industry company revolves around the central atrium. The atrium design, combined with natural indoor lighting, once again embodies the theme of "cultural window".
