Short description

The Media Centre of Meishan is located in Meishan city of Sichuan province which is the hometown of the famous poet Su Dongpo of Song dynasty（A.D 960—1127） . Therefore Meishan has been known as a poetry books city in the last thousand year. The Media Centre includes three important cultural facilities: cultural centre, library and Meishan TV station, and a series of cultural industry companies such as Meishan daily newspaper and Meishan internet information company. The building is located on a mountain slope which has a 19m vertical height , therefore the design divides the building into several parts to suit the slope and cleverly digested the height difference. The building volumes like stacking books which echoes the city’s name : a poetry books city.
The building volume is layered on top of each other, symbolizes the way of stacking books. The dialogue between building and the city is carefully considered, the scattered volume forms decks that can view the city from different angles. Double layers façade has been used at the floating volume in the middle of the building, the inside is glass panel while outside uses perforated aluminium plate. In nightfall , the floating volume will become a unique screen building by images projected on it. The layered setback of the building, combined with roof greening, forms multiple sky gardens, allowing people to stroll on top of culture.
As the urban cultural living room of Meishan, the interior of the building is full of fun and joy. By setting up multiple courtyards of different scales, a rich spatial hierarchy is formed, giving people unexpected surprises. The atrium introduces sunlight and natural ventilation, reflecting the concept of green design.
The cultural center is located on the west side of the building and is a place for citizens to engage in cultural activities. It has multiple functions such as dance classroom, calligraphy classroom, music classroom, rehearsal hall, cultural research room, etc. A cultural exhibition hall has been set up on the top floor of the cultural center, which can provide space for different cultural activities. The library is located on the east side of the building. It has multiple functions such as a children's reading room, an adult reading area, a Dongpo Culture Research Room, a 300 person lecture hall, and a library. The unique reading space on the top floor of the library, Shushan Shuhai, will bring unexpected surprises to the public. Meishan TV Station, located on the north side of the building, has a 400 seat studio and an 800 seat studio, which can meet the recording requirements of various TV programs.
The media centre will become the cultural living room of Meishan City and a new urban landmark.
