Short description

The Upper West Side Condos embodies a vision of quiet luxury and urban sophistication within the serene landscape of a neighbouring town just outside of the bustling core of Toronto, Ontario. Situated amidst picturesque farmland and expansive countryside, the project aimed to seamlessly integrate elements of its natural surroundings into its design while offering residents a contemporary living experience. The objectives were clear: to create elegant residential spaces that also fostered a sense of community and well-being.

The Upper West Side Condos amenities program was conceptualized as a lifestyle-inspired oasis, featuring a social lounge, co-working area, party room, and wellness center, catering to the diverse needs of modern urban dwellers. The design seamlessly blended contemporary luxury with elements of nature, as seen in the incorporation of cloud fixtures and pops of greenery throughout the common areas, evoking a sense of tranquility and connection to the outdoors.

The design team embraced the area's agricultural heritage by sourcing reclaimed brick from nearby derelict farmhouses, and repurposed them into a key design feature throughout the public spaces. The reclaimed brick was masterfully transformed into the illusion of a soft textile texture, resembling a soft wave. Extending end-to-end throughout the lounge areas, this brick textile creates a vertical landscape mirroring the canopy of the light installations. Every single brick was positioned with precision to create a stunning focal point, conveying the warmth and authenticity of life in the countryside. A meditation tree, set within a purpose-built architectural landscape, served as a calming focal point, further enhancing the connection to nature and fulfilling the requirement for nature-inspired design elements.

Innovative lighting solutions were integrated into the project to enhance the overall atmosphere. Speckled undulating globes in the lobby radiate a wave of delicate ambient lighting following the wave of the statement brick wall, creating a canopy to bring the ceiling height down to a more intimate level. Delicate ambient lighting and digital fireplaces are strategically placed in the public spaces to provide residents with a warm and inviting space to call home, further fulfilling the requirement for modern amenities while maintaining a sense of luxury and comfort.

The project's social and environmental impact is significant, aiming to address sustainability through various means. Repurposing reclaimed materials and embracing sustainable design principles set a new standard for responsible urban development. Additionally, the emphasis on community-oriented amenities fosters a sense of belonging and connection among residents, contributing to the overall quality of life in the area while promoting sustainable living practices. Through thoughtful planning and innovative execution, the Upper West Side Condos achieved a harmonious blend of luxury, sustainability, and community-centric design, setting a benchmark for future developments.
