Ruiguang Social Housing Development
LRH Architect & Associates
Project description
All in all, the project is a microcity that connects to its neighbouring park with three main functions, distributed respectively from a public base to a private top: a supermarket; welfare services; and social housing units. Facing towards the south, the architecture allows the atrium to receive the most sunlight and the ground floor to connect with the neighbouring Ruiguang Park with stairs and ramps. The park’s natural landscape is integrated with the building’s functions and creates the possibility for an infinite expansion. The white horizontal bands that undulate with the sunlight serve as sunshades and balconies, and the sky gardens that scatter amongst them are places for social interactions as well as greeneries in the sky. Corridors stretching towards the street allow the occupants to sense the wholeness of the architecture and its surrounding urban space. The supermarket on the ground floor, whilst generating social interactions, also helps to form appropriate divisions between nearby industrial, commercial, and residential zones as its services are tailored mainly towards the needs of the residents.
