As a national institution that represents both the NBA and the game of basketball, the Hall of Fame was in desperate need of a total transformation. Our team imagined a dynamic visitor experience that reflects the excitement of the game – including engaging media interactives, breathtaking storytelling, and a uniquely immersive entertainment experience. The solution centered on a holistic approach integrating all the elements of the museum’s narrative with a bold, powerful vision.

The visitor journey begins in the Main Lobby with large-scale, replica player lockers capturing the impact of Hall of Famers. Visitors experience an energetic film about the history of the game in the Nike Theatre and proceed to the mezzanine gallery where they can enjoy expansive views and hands-on activities.

The “1891 Gallery” celebrates James Naismith and fans are immersed in a series of galleries with interactives, artifacts, media and stories about the game’s global influence. The exhibit journey culminates in the “Hall of Honor” to celebrate the most influential participants of the game with a unique digital tapestry and reverential glass pylons, leaving visitors with a lasting memory. Finally, fans descend to center court, which has been entirely renovated with a refinished surface, dramatic lighting, and soundscapes. As visitors find themselves in a monumental, three-story space, they can test their skills from the 3-point line as well the “Slam Dunk” interactive. After hours, Center Court serves as a themed event space for private gatherings, celebrations, and the highly anticipated annual Enshrinement Ceremony.

The highly curated sequence of galleries in the revitalized Hall revives historic moments and instills a sense of joy and wonder in life-long fans and emerging enthusiasts alike. The new Basketball Hall of Fame has everything a fan of the game could want in a state-of-the-art, immersive sports exhibit experience.
