Bacardi Limited: 1862 Cocktail Lounge
Planning Factory Bermuda
Short description
Bacardi Limited, the world’s largest privately-held spirit company, has been applying dynamics of Social Architecture since opening the doors of its global headquarters in Bermuda in 1965 as an ‘office without walls’. The building is inspired by an original design by renowned architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. These designs were intended for the company’s original headquarters in Santiago de Cuba that were never realized as the family and business was forced into exile from the island in 1960. Recent updates continue to revolutionize the idea of Social Architecture, such as applying Vaastu theory to include a layer of elemental awareness and social healing to experiential intention, particularly honoring the true center of the building. The epicenter of the inspiring, stylish, community space, and central to the sleek offices, is the 1862 Cocktail Bar, a one-of-a-kind, brand portfolio lounge, which invites employees and special guests alike to sit for a drink and consider the breadth of Bacardi while connecting in a personal way. Digital engagement and real-world connection come together in this space with a state-of-the-art AV system to ensure seamless town hall meetings, and cutting-edge advancements such as VR tours of distilleries and product NFTs. Adjoining glass paneled meeting rooms have been upgraded to invite fresh ideas with innovative installations such as living walls as well as intriguing, custom design touches like metallic logo wallpaper. All architectural decisions for offices and boardrooms were designed to be adaptable for multipurpose use. Stacks of high art books in the variety of luxurious seating vignettes, inviting you to sit, align, and as the Bacardi Limited purpose states, “make moments matter”.
The central concept of the Social Architecture updates ensures the Bacardi Limited global headquarters remain an inspiring and inclusive workplace for current and future people.
