Bacardi Limited: 1862 Cocktail Bar
Planning Factory Bermuda
Short description
The central concept of the Interior Design of 1862 Cocktail Bar is to pay tribute to Bacardi Limited’s legacy as the world’s largest privately-held spirits company and its portfolio of brands through an immersive, inspiring workplace. This renovation is a tribute to 1920’s Art Deco and Nouveau architecture from the historic Cuban destination Edifico Bacardi – the Bacardi building in Havana. The bar balances the avant-garde architecture of the company’s global headquarters in Bermuda, inspired by original design by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
1862 Cocktail Bar is an achievement in high concept interior design. Every detail is customized to both represent the international scope of the brand today and to celebrate the past 160 years of legacy, all while serving as a space to connect and support the family-owned company’s purpose to ‘make moments matter’.
Situated in the heart of the Bacardi Limited global headquarters in Bermuda, the entire portfolio of more than 200 brands and labels are masterfully displayed on a gleaming backbar of 19.5’ glass shelving. Forty-five different glassware styles are available to perfectly present cocktails the way they were meant to be enjoyed. Bar materials showcase the storied heritage with coasters featuring original 1920’s Edifico photography, which features the sconces, lights on the bar, and columns. A family lure oil painting is displayed leather-bound cocktail lists.
1862 Cocktail Bar’s lounge area features a portrait wall of the family Founding Fathers flanked by regularly-rotated artifact installations. The Bacardi signature is prominently inlaid in the bar wood as well as embroidered in metallic. Pillows are covered in fabrics recreated from an archival scarf showcasing the distillery, El Coco, images of Cuba and the bat device. A multitude of Bacardi bat emblems are on display including the original logo reproduced for custom-made railing finals and purse hooks.
