Short description
Xinhua Bookstore is an important part of the memory of Guangzhou citizens, and the project design willing is to show visitors the context of the city's development, make visitors feel the multiculturalism of Guangzhou via showing the characteristic culture of Guangzhou.
At the same time, as the first Xinhua bookstore in Guangzhou, the designer hopes to enhance the communication and dialogue between citizens and neighbors through the unique cultural vocabulary of Guangzhou, ignite the feelings of home and country in old Guangzhou, and strengthen cultural self-confidence.
In terms of overall layout, the design draws on the layout mode of "vestibule and backyard" and "three courtyards" in Xiguan Mansion. The buildings in Guangfu area have "halls", "courtyards" and "book pavilions" since ancient times.
When you enter the hall, you will be greeted as the "official hall". The main hall is square, and the courtyard is open and bright. The combination of pendant lamp "imprint", a square of gold and stone, confirms the brilliance. If readers carefully identify the contents of the seal, they will find that it is "Erudite", "Calligraphy", "Treasure" and so on. It has the local cultural characteristics of Guangfu. "Remain true to our original aspiration", "Encourage", and "Forge ahead" shine in the courtyard like stars, making the entire space itself contain a sense of the times that is constantly rhythmic.
On the side of the "Entrance Hall", a landscape staircase, staggered and castrated, as if leaping out of the tiles of traditional patterns, the staircase is twisted, with characteristic bonsai in between, and the courtyard wall has eight views of Guangzhou, and the scenery is elegant. As if to guide the reader to explore layer by layer, one side to appreciate the Lingnan style, the other side to touch the historical context of the millennium, continuing to this day's prosperity.
Via the Guangfu style architecture elements such as "Gable", "Manchurian window" and the auspicious tile elements companies with the bronze background of the old street scene of Beijing Road evoke the memory of the old Guangzhou people of Beijing Road and resonate with the culture resonance of the neighborhood of Beijing Road. It is intended to create a scene of "a prosperous place, a learned palace, bright lights, and a quiet study".
The "Canton Tower", "Zhenhai Tower", and the new eight sights of Yangcheng appear successively in the backyard library, Along the symbol of "Wo`er Gable", the hall of the library is like a Hanlin Study, which giving the readers a warm welcome. After enter the second courtyard , The back interlayer is distributed with stationery and small cultural and creative hall, and the space is scattered.
Stepping out the "Entrance Hall" , the front find an open hall which is an the original closed space, combining half of the original upper and lower floors to one. The reading area sitting in second floor, and the patio area is equipped with a water bar. The water bar is located near the window with a framed beside it. Enjoying good view of downtown, customers can read books and play chess in front of the window. It is a comfortable place of retreat in the middle of nowhere.
In addition to the window framed view platform, seats around the corridor on the second floor also provided for customers reading or meditating; Some antique shelves site on the two-story arcade. Showing exhibits such as ancient shelves, which display the rich and colorful handicrafts, teapots, tea sets and other material and cultural essence of old Guangzhou. At the same time, one side of the water bar is a special audio and video area. The music is matched with characteristic cultural creation, and the black brick and tile hanging ladder is used as the background to depict a scene of the new Guangfu study.
Both of the second and third floors are three - hall structure with three internal courtyards. The largest hall on the third floor is a multi-functional area. It is not only a large bookstore, but also a large-scale activity area, which can host large-scale signing activities for more than 100 people. Specially selected collection rooms and small VIP reading areas are designed around to meet the cultural needs of readers at different levels.
Mix with both opening and closing spaces in the whole bookstore, commanding an unobstructed view of the courtyards while keep the halls as a tranquil, dignified ambience of a palace . There are flower racks, artificial view table and tiny landscapes link between the halls. The design confluent the open and large space as the "outside" and the small scenery as "interior" fully shows that the people of Guangzhou have experienced prosperity. It shows a stronger mission of China, and have their own cultural pursuit. The whole bookstore designer wants to find resonance with readers by means of spatial metaphor.
