Transcultural Journey on the Orient Express

School of Design, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU)

Short description

This panorama narrates a transcultural journey on the Orient Express, taking place along the railway from Amsterdam to Istanbul. It envisions how a transcultural experience empowers individuals and blends different cultural expressions, thereby crafting a dynamic, ever-evolving tapestry of cultures.

The project it belongs to is proposing a system that packages cultural resources (objects and programs) in modular forms. These resources are transported in and out of the train using conveyor-belt-inspired designs or making use of existing transportation infrastructures.

The 420x14830mm drawing represents the journey and its world as a seamless, continuous landscape in one panorama. It introduces depth to the story by using windows and frames as 'doors' to link the narrative with the associated time-space story. The content is illustrated from the foreground to the background, directing the audience's viewing distance and gaze. In essence, the drawing serves as a mini-world, inviting audiences to join in the journey.
