A Multi-Sensory Exploration of New York City’s Bars Through Personal Experiences: Bridging Sensory and Social Divides Beyond Alcohol

Shiyao Wu

Short description

This project redefines cultural exploration by offering a comprehensive, multi-sensory immersion into New York’s dynamic alcohol culture. Through a holistic blend of a meticulously crafted book, a series of innovative visual cubes, and exclusive alcohol-themed merchandise, the project transcends traditional boundaries to deliver an engaging and accessible experience.

Inspired by personal encounters during vibrant weekend bar outings—and the realization that many friends are unable to experience these settings due to allergies or personal preferences—this initiative was born out of a desire to share the nuanced flavors, ambiance, and cultural richness of New York’s bar scene. It captures the full spectrum of sensory experiences, transforming the indirect perception of wine culture into a tangible, multi-dimensional journey.

By bridging the gap between direct participation and vicarious enjoyment, our project invites a diverse audience to engage with and appreciate the subtleties of bar culture in an innovative way. We believe this submission exemplifies creative excellence and inclusive design, making it a strong contender in this competition.
