Block Chair: A flat-pack dining chair made of ash wood, combining a clean orthogonal profile with surprisingly comfortable seating.

Short description

Block is a dining chair made of ash wood. The model features an orthogonal arrangement of components but it is ergonomic and comfortable due to its curved back and seat made of ash veneered plywood.

Original ready-to-assemble three-part construction is easy to build using bolts and a hex key. Over time, worn-out parts can be replaced. The chair is delivered flat-packed to save space during transportation and ensure convenient storage. Suitable for intensive use in public spaces.

There are many chairs in the world with a minimalist, orthogonal silhouette. Designers have revisited this archetype many times, experimenting with different materials and technologies. Orthogonal chairs exist both as conceptual statements and as functional, mass-produced objects — yet very few of them are truly comfortable.
When you try to make an orthogonal chair more comfortable, it tends to accumulate details and drift away from the original concept.
When we found a manufacturing partner capable of producing plywood bent along multiple axes, we conceived Blok — embedding a seat and backrest of complex, three-dimensional form into a strict orthogonal frame. Their subtle angles and ergonomic curves bring elegance and comfort to Blok, while preserving the clarity and purity of its rectilinear silhouette.

We also developed an original assembly system: the chair consists of three main parts — the back legs with the backrest, the seat, and the front legs — which are easily connected with bolts. Despite its simplicity, the construction is remarkably strong and durable.

The Block Chair is a versatile piece suitable for both residential and public spaces. It fits seamlessly into both classic and modern interiors. Despite being made from high-quality materials, it remains relatively affordable.
The seat and backrest are made of bent plywood and shaped close to rectangular forms, just like the frame, which is crafted from solid ash using simple rectangular components. This design is efficient in terms of labor and helps minimize production waste.
The chair is packed in a flat box, which saves space during storage and transportation. Thanks to its knock-down construction, any damaged parts can be replaced over time. As a result, the chair has a long lifespan, which means fewer new chairs need to be produced.
