Spanning the ground floor of their Madrid office, the IAS suite seamlessly blends high-tech features, flexible spaces, and sophisticated design to enhance learning, client engagement, and product demonstrations. Designing the Institute for Advancing Science (IAS) suite for Boston Scientific posed a multifaceted challenge: seamlessly integrating a high-tech training facility into an existing agile workspace while adhering to global brand guidelines. The new IAS suite had to align with the modern, flexible design of the upper floors, which prioritised versatility and contemporary aesthetics, while introducing sophisticated technology and creating an immersive training environment.

The design had to ensure that the versatile training areas, including the state-of-the-art auditorium and adaptable labs, met a wide range of educational requirements without disrupting the existing aesthetic flow. This involved addressing critical considerations such as effective acoustic management and optimal lighting conditions, which are essential for creating an engaging and productive learning environment. Incorporating sophisticated technology—such as immersive digital walls and dynamic interactive holograms—required innovative design solutions to ensure these elements complemented rather than overshadowed the existing design. The goal was to integrate high-tech features seamlessly into the space, maintaining a cohesive visual and tactile experience throughout. Addressing these challenges necessitated a design approach that not only adhered to Boston Scientific’s global brand standards but also set a new benchmark for modern training environments. The result is a sophisticated space that skillfully merges high-tech functionality with aesthetic elegance, delivering an exceptional experience that reflects Boston Scientific’s unwavering commitment to innovation and excellence.

Boston Scientific’s global brand guidelines were followed to craft a sophisticated IAS suite that seamlessly integrates with the existing agile workspace. The design harmoniously blends cutting-edge technology with a refined brand identity, setting a new standard for training environments.

The suite’s standout feature is the immersive auditorium, which boasts a curved LED digital wall and integrated screens on the floor, walls, and ceiling. This state-of-the-art setup offers a captivating, 360-degree experience for presentations and training sessions. Complementing the auditorium are versatile wet and dry labs, designed with movable partitions and convertible furniture to adapt to various training needs. Interactive holograms enhance the educational experience by showcasing medical devices and anatomical models, while private rooms with advanced video conferencing technology allow surgeons to remotely assist and observe live surgeries. The design includes a striking LED ceiling installation above the entrance that mimics the Milky Way, adding a visually captivating element and enhancing the immersive experience. An artificial skylight was also incorporated to simulate natural light, adjusting colour and intensity to create a dynamic environment.

The choice of high-quality materials, such as timber and concrete-effect vinyl flooring, ensures a cohesive and durable aesthetic. Bespoke cabinetry provides stylish and functional storage, while acoustic solutions and the WELL Light concept optimise sound quality and lighting, fostering a productive and healthy workspace. These elements not only adhere to global brand standards but also elevate the facility’s status as a benchmark for innovative, high-functioning training environments.
