Built to Capture

HGEsch Photography

Short description

HGEsch experiences the great outdoors – and that is the way anyone should experience architecture. Not too fast, not too slow, keeping in mind that every detail in each frame counts for the resulting film and letting the viewers participate in the experience of any built environment. HGEsch and his cameramen master all the attempts of an approximation in dignity, be it in showing representative details in Tadao Ando’s works or in moving through the landscape of new edifices planned and realized by KPF architects, especially when placed in megacity surroundings. HGEsch’s worldwide acclaimed photographic sensitivity, lays the base for his work in video, be it on commission or as a free addition to the daily experiences. As in all photography, light plays the main role but here it is the moving light, or the light of movement shining through the screen. Looking at the mirroring surfaces of water expanses – especially in the constructions designed by Tadao Ando or GMP architects – the image starts to dance and gives the impression of a second facade of light and movement. Lighting is equally important in time capsules, showing the differences between daylight, dawn, and night – a facade reflecting the sun opens up and shows the interior qualities of the architecture presented. More than any photograph the moving image documents the process in, around and before the creation of the architects’ visions – finally it needs a master like HGEsch to find the adequate perspectives with the video camera.
