FOLDING SPACE

Kris Lin International Design

Short description

1. Functionality
This project is situated in the new CBD office building in Kunming, designated as a financial center and headquarters base. It aims to create an office space that integrates practicality and artistry. Initially, it will serve as a public exhibition and experience venue, later transitioning into an office space meeting the daily operational needs of enterprises.

2. Challenges
The design needs to overcome three major challenges: integrating practicality with artistry, smoothly transitioning between a public exhibition and a working environment, and incorporating the inspiration from paper folding into precise geometric structures and artistic design.

3. Innovations
A. Folded Space
Inspired by paper folding, this design reimagines traditional box-like spaces through geometric decomposition, creating sculptural three-dimensional artistic spaces. By adopting three-dimensional structures, it forms free-flowing geometric shapes, breaking conventional spatial boundaries and folding the space. The office design integrates irregular geometric structures with clean lines, enhanced by LED lighting and decorations, augmenting the artistic appeal while creating a unique architectural sense and technological atmosphere, showcasing a perfect blend of strength and art.

B. Stage for Creative Collisions
Through innovative spatial layout, the designers aim to inspire behavioral changes, enhancing communication and interaction. Conference rooms are redefined as open and bright "creative communication stages," where their transparent glass structures and central locations stimulate inspiration and promote vitality and interaction within the space.

C. Optimization of Transformation Strategies
To address the challenge of switching between public exhibition and working environments, multifunctional furniture and configurations such as foldable tables and movable partitions are introduced. This allows for flexible spatial changes, enabling a quick shift from a public exhibition mode to a working mode. Additionally, an intelligent control system is deployed to adjust lighting, temperature, and sound with one click, enhancing the usability and convenience of the space.
