Luz Apartment
Ding Dong

Short description
For this project, DING DONG was tasked with designing a family home that would accommodate the day-to-day needs of a large family while reflecting the client's passion for art. The building, still under construction, provided an opportunity to shape the apartment’s layout to perfectly suit the family’s requirements and vision.
Art was the core inspiration behind the design of Luz Apartment. The apartment’s layout was envisioned as a "cabin by the sea," with large windows framing stunning ocean views. The challenge was to enhance this connection to the outdoors without letting the breathtaking view dominate the interior. This concern was particularly relevant at night, when the absence of natural light makes the vastness of the sea less perceptible, requiring the interior design to be just as engaging and meaningful after dark.
As an avid art collector, the client needed spaces that would complement and elevate the presence of their striking pieces. From paintings and sculptures to unique furniture, each artwork needed room to breathe and tell its own story. The design had to balance these works of art with a functional family home, ensuring that the spaces could work for both everyday living and art display without conflict.
The overarching goal was to create a harmonious environment where functionality and aesthetic appeal seamlessly merged. The apartment needed to support the family’s daily life while being a refined space for art and entertaining. This was achieved by emphasizing versatile, serene spaces that would allow the artworks to take center stage while remaining integrated into a functional home.
One of the most defining features of Luz Apartment is the abundant natural light that floods the main social and private areas. The design made the most of this natural light, creating spaces that feel open, airy, and deeply connected to the outside environment. This is most evident in the living and dining areas, where panoramic views of the sea are framed by large windows, fostering a strong connection to nature.
To complement the sea view, the design used a light and calming color palette. Lacquered carpentry in soft tones contrasts beautifully with the dark wood flooring, grounding the space and providing a backdrop for the art pieces. Key elements of the design, such as the striking orange entrance and the dramatic double-height staircase, create an immediate visual impact upon entering the apartment. These bold decisions help set the tone for the interior, which combines simplicity with subtle complexity. The use of varied materials, such as Fiori de Pesco marble on the stairs, black oak, and handcrafted tiles in the living room, creates a sense of movement and texture while maintaining harmony between spaces.
One of the most notable aspects of the design is the dining room. Due to the irregular layout of the space, the traditional dining room concept was not an option. Instead, we devised a custom solution with a distinctive dining table and an accompanying sofa—special pieces that were integral to the design and have become a personal touch for the clients. The layout of the dining room allows flexibility, ensuring that it can accommodate the family’s needs while maintaining a sophisticated and open environment.
Throughout the apartment, we aimed to create a sense of timeless elegance while ensuring that the spaces remain practical and family-friendly. The layout encourages fluidity and interaction, whether it’s in the living area, the family room, or the dining space. The home is designed to evolve with the family’s needs, offering areas for quiet reflection as well as spaces to entertain and celebrate the family’s shared passions.
Luz Residence is a reflection of the family’s lifestyle and artistic sensibility. The design successfully integrates the client’s passion for art with the practicalities of daily life, creating a living environment that is as visually striking as it is comfortable.
