Pavilion by the Volga River

Vladimir Kosenko

Project description

The Volga River is one of the longest rivers in Russia, whose coastline sandbanks often covered in pine trees create unique views and places. The beach pavilion is situated in a beautiful place not far from the town of Uglich. The small glass and concrete construction is not just being used as a protection from bad weather and sun but also enables one to spend more time outdoors after the sunset and gives the opportunity of having an extended bathing season. The pavilion includes an open space lounge with a fireplace, a dining area and a kitchen. The restrooms can be found outside under the stairs which leads to a usable roof where one can find a great place to chill and have a drink under the stars. The main volume is formed by a concrete slab on metal pillars, surrounded by frameless sliding glass panels which can be completely moved to let the fresh air inside. The part of the building containing kitchen, restrooms and a staircase is made of monolith concrete without finishes to enable being used in complicated climate conditions. The main idea of the project was to allow the guests spectate the nature with as less obstructions as possible.
