Shippo is a modular ceramic tea cup set that reimagines everyday tableware by fostering interaction, engagement, and play. Inspired by the traditional Japanese Shippo pattern, the cups are designed to be flipped upside down and interlocked like a jigsaw puzzle, transforming the simple act of tea drinking into an experience of discovery and connection. This innovative approach invites users to interact with their tableware in a more engaging and intuitive way, adding warmth and personality to tea rituals.

Crafted from ceramic, Shippo offers a smooth yet sturdy feel in hand, enhancing the sensory experience of tea drinking. The airbrush gradient finish in soft blue tones adds a contemporary touch while evoking the serene beauty of Mount Fuji. The gradient accentuates the fluidity of the design, subtly emphasizing movement and transformation—two central themes of the project. The design not only provides a refined aesthetic but also enhances the tactile experience, making each sip feel even more natural and soothing.

At the heart of Shippo’s design is a seamless transition of geometric shapes, from a round lip to an angled bottom, allowing each cup to fit together in multiple orientations. When placed on the specially designed tray, the cups align with the surface pattern, guiding users to create harmonious arrangements through flipping and positioning.
