SJK(C) Chuang Hwa 3 Library
Lab Two Design

Short description
This is a "Renovation Plan for the Old Library," with the main goal of transforming the originally dull atmosphere of the library into a lively and cheerful environment. This aims to enhance students' enthusiasm for reading and thus increase their reading time. Based on this concept, our team decided to use a colourful scheme as the foundation, breaking away from traditional furniture design thinking by adopting irregular bookshelves and desks, paired with vibrant colours, and implementing overall ambient lighting design.
Design Highlights
1. Colour and Atmosphere:
• Colour Foundation: Using a colourful scheme to create a vibrant and creative atmosphere not only attracts students' attention but also stimulates their curiosity and desire to explore. • Themed Areas: Different functional areas use different theme colours, such as warm, soft tones for reading areas and bright, lively tones for discussion areas, to distinguish between different usage scenarios.
2. Furniture Design:
• Irregular Bookshelves and Desks: Breaking away from traditional linear designs, we use irregularly shaped bookshelves and desks, which not only add visual interest but also provide more flexible usage space. The bottom layer of each bookshelf is designed for storage, allowing more books and items to be stored. • Slide Equipment: Due to the height of the bookshelves not being suitable for directly reaching books, we have added slide equipment to address this issue. This design not only solves the practical problem but also adds fun, allowing students to experience enjoyment while retrieving books.
3. Ambient Lighting Design:
• Seamless Connection Between Ceiling and Walls: The ceiling colour extends to the walls, creating a visual seamless connection, thus ignoring the actual height of the ceiling. This design makes the space look taller and more spacious. • Overall Lighting: The primary focus of the overall lighting design is on the reading area. We use soft and ample lighting to ensure students do not experience eye strain while reading. Additionally, we have added shelf lighting to help students clearly select books. This meticulous lighting design not only meets functional needs but also creates a warm and friendly atmosphere.
4. Other Design Elements:
• Comfortable Seating and Rest Areas: Comfortable seating and rest areas are set up in the corners of the library, where students can relax, think, or have group discussions. The design of these areas is also full of colour and fun, encouraging students to stay longer. • Interactive Walls: Interactive areas, such as graffiti walls and message boards, are set up on some walls, where students can leave their thoughts and creations. This not only increases the library's interactivity but also stimulates students' creativity.
This design is lively and warm, yet practical, creating a brand-new library. Through these thoughtfully designed elements, we believe this new library will become a beloved place for students to learn and interact, enhancing their interest in reading and their enthusiasm for learning.
