Gobierno de la Ciudad de México / Secretaría del Medio Ambiente

Project description

The Sierra de Guadalupe Natural Protected Area lies in northern Mexico City. It is part of the priority projects of the Green Infrastructure Program of Mexico City, its importance lies in the conservation and feeding of the recharge area of the aquifer for the Valley of Mexico. It has xerophilous vegetation, areas of oak forest, and live more than 300 wild species, that inhabit there, as well as providing green areas to one of the most marginalized urban areas of the city. Community spaces were created in order to publicize the importance of biodiversity and encourage the community to conserve the area through actions such as: reforestation of slopes; themed trails, demonstration gardens, wetlands and dams; viewpoints, educational classrooms and games area. The social component is important for the space, and an awareness-raising programme will be launched for users.
