Short description
Sol@res: Architecture Rooted in Light, Land, and Life
Rzeszów, Poland
Amidst the gently rolling fields of southeastern Poland - where vineyards trace the horizon in rhythmic rows - Sol@res emerges as a luminous constellation of wellness, learning, and play. More than a building, it is a landscape made architecture: a place where nature is not just seen, but felt; where sunlight is harvested, and where joy flows year-round like warm mineral water through its walls.
This visionary complex in Rzeszów redefines the idea of urban recreation, becoming what the city has long needed - a “winter heart” pulsing with community, warmth, and vitality. It is a space of regeneration across every dimension: ecological, emotional, and educational. A civic gesture that does not impose, but instead harmonizes with its surroundings, inspired by the land and designed for its people.
Fields of Light: A Fractal Architecture
The guiding metaphor of the project- the vineyard—becomes its structure. Roofs and terraces stretch in elegant bands across the site, echoing agricultural furrows and inviting a sense of rhythm and calm. This fractal, modular composition is not only poetic - it is practical: allowing for phased expansion, adaptive programming, and optimized exposure to the sun.
Facing south, the rooftops open themselves to light. Photovoltaic panels shimmer across multiple levels - from elevated solar farms to canopy-shaded parking areas and even ground-level solar planes - collectively forming an integrated energy ecosystem. At the heart of the complex, a crystalline roof of ETFE film dynamically modulates solar gain, offering natural tanning in winter, and shelter from summer heat. The building breathes with its climate, changing as the seasons turn.
An Interior That Opens to the Sky
Step inside, and you enter a world of light and water, of transparency and flow. Daylight penetrates deeply through atria—verdant, glass-enclosed biomes that bring the seasons indoors. These “nature spheres” offer more than ambiance: they regulate air quality, provide visual orientation, and anchor the human experience in nature's rhythms.
Functionally, the design responds to all generations, all bodies, all weather. Recreational and sport pools, VITAL thermal zones, and children’s areas with beaches and interactive water features offer something for every visitor. The EduBox© concept transforms learning into play- modular, tactile installations that invite experimentation and parent-child connection.
Everything is arranged with care. Parents can watch their children from garden terraces and cafes; seniors can access warm hydrotherapy pools directly from locker areas; and younger guests can roam safely between zones designed with spatial empathy and intuitive flow.
Cultural Innovation and Environmental Integrity
But Sol@res is more than water and glass - it is memory and ritual. The Winne Saunarium draws from local winemaking traditions, creating an immersive sensory experience through steam, scent, and landscape. At its core is the SAUNA HEKSAGON©, a bold architectural centerpiece for communal wellness rituals, offering multi-sensory journeys that are as culturally rooted as they are contemporary.
Rainwater is collected in canyon-like retention basins within the sauna garden, choreographing hydrology into a living sculpture. This reservoir not only irrigates green roofs and gardens but becomes a focal point of sustainability-as-poetry - a reminder that beauty and responsibility can coexist.
A Living Tapestry of Urban Renewal
The masterplan divides the site into three interwoven zones: a northern wellness garden and saunarium, an eastern educational and entry plaza, and a southern summertime world of outdoor pools and sunlit beaches. This zoning is spatial storytelling, allowing the visitor to experience the passage from civic life into leisure, from movement into stillness.
Technologically, Sol@res sets new standards. From quantum dot glazing that generates electricity while filtering daylight, to passive ventilation strategies and windbreaks that protect outdoor waterscapes, every design move serves both human comfort and planetary well-being.
Sol@res is not just a complex. It is a manifesto.
Of how architecture can regenerate—not just energy, but also joy. Of how the memory of fields and the science of sustainability can be folded into one coherent, elegant form. And how, in the heart of Rzeszów, a new season can begin—where winter becomes luminous, and cities become soft, green, and warm.
