The “Outside In” of Architecture and Design
Artwill (Hong Kong) Limited
Project description
Why is architecture so often represented by the outside, and not the inside? Hong Kong is known for its architecture. But at the same time, towers of plain apartment buildings dominate the cityscape. In this 1,870 sq.ft. apartment, the designer flips it around to bring the architectural design of the outside, in. Concrete forms the foundation of every building. Similarly, the smooth concrete walls of the apartment is the focal point, providing a sleek and clean look that is modern and minimalist. Lighting is another crucial element – not enough and the room would become a bunker. As another tribute to modern architecture, the designer incorporated clean, straight lines from floor to ceiling. The difference between outside architecture and interior design is variability. A sliding door and glass bathroom walls allows the entire space to be open, from living room to bedroom. Yet closed, it provides privacy for the occupant.
