Tongxiang MixC Commercial Center

FLO Landscape Design (Shanghai) Co. Limited

Short description

The project is located in the center of Tongxiang. It is a benchmark commercial development that signifies growing economic prosperity in Jiaxing. Our design strategy focuses on creating spatial identities while differentiating experiential qualities in the commercial public realm. The project took inspiration from the city’s cultural heritage - the Tales of Phoenix. In the ancient times, it is rumored that Tongxiang attracted phoenix to inhabit here, gaining its reputation as “the hometown of Phoenix”. Our design vocabulary uses subtle formal abstractions of Phoenix, expressing design ingenuity through exquisite details.

At entry plazas, feather-like gradient pavage guide visitors into the mall. Cascade water features at entry plazas mimic the gliding motion of a phoenix’s spreading wings. Water surfaces with fountains or jump springs highlight the quality display at the entrances. The sunken plaza features layered terraces with obliquely-sliced seating steps at 30cm in thickness, ensuring comfort for seating and variations in the aesthetics of the space. The formal design abstractly depict the momentum of phoenix motions, adding diversification of visual interests for the experientiality of the space.

Installation feature at the central courtyard plaza acts as a focal interactive space, and its shape simulates the posture of a phoenix dancing on a branch. Being at the hub of the project, we wanted to create festive vibes rendered by active events and interactions. The installation is an integrated light pole with built-in ultrasonic atomization system to generate fogs and smoke bubbles, creating special effects catered for participatory interactions. The dry fountain here contributes to the vibrant experientiality, integrating a variety of fountain sprinklers to achieve dynamic display of rhythms. At night, integrated lighting creates water show sensation, bringing sensorial immersion to visitors. The multiplicity of sounds, lights and waters has successfully activated the hub that’s always full of fun and surprises.
