Short description

Sauna Area in Stalowa Wola: An Immersive Journey Through History, Art, and Sensory Renewal
The new sauna area project in Stalowa Wola is more than just a wellness facility – it is a living homage to the city’s origins, architectural heritage, and artistic spirit. It draws its strength from the bold vision that gave birth to Stalowa Wola in 1938 – a city raised from the forest floor in under two years as part of Poland’s ambitious Central Industrial District initiative. At the heart of this vision lay modernity, ambition, and national pride.
From the outset, the city embraced art déco – a style that embodied the optimism of the interwar years. With its strong lines, geometric elegance, rich materials, and sensual sophistication, art déco became the visual language of progress, power, and glamour. It was this very aesthetic – once shaping the city's identity – that inspired the creation of the sauna zone.
This is not merely a space to warm the body – it is a sanctuary for the spirit, a contemporary reimagining of the ancient Roman thermae. Just as the Baths of Caracalla once combined architecture, art, and philosophy, so too does this sauna invite guests to immerse themselves in a multi-sensory experience – where beauty, culture, and wellness intersect.
At the core of the interior concept lies a deliberate return to the art déco style, treated not as a decorative trend, but as a deeply rooted narrative identity of the city itself. Every design decision – from the palette of black, gold, emerald green, and marble, to the custom geometric motifs – is an echo of the original vision of Stalowa Wola.
To anchor this concept emotionally and visually, the sauna interior draws inspiration from the works of Tamara de Lempicka, a Polish artist whose bold portraits, sensual curves, and cubist compositions defined art déco at its most iconic. Her paintings become more than just references – they are the spiritual axis of the space.
Walls are adorned with monumental mosaics, crafted from precisely cut, glazed ceramic tiles. These intricate compositions capture not just the form, but also the light, mood, and dynamic movement of Lempicka’s paintings. The featured works include:
• Blue Scarf
• The Musician
• Ira Perrot
• Suzy Solidor
Each mosaic is accompanied by a curated plaque that places the artwork in the context of Lempicka’s life and legacy – transforming the sauna into a museum-like journey through visual storytelling. The mosaics are not surface decoration – they are architecturally embedded, like the timeless frescoes of ancient Rome.
The architecture doesn’t merely frame the experience – it amplifies it. Light plays a crucial role, designed to evoke a cinematic atmosphere: soft reflections on marble, subtle glints of gold, and steam curling around rays of warm illumination. Every surface and texture is curated to create a sense of depth, intimacy, and timeless glamour.
This theatrical environment becomes a backdrop for rituals and performances – a space where wellness merges with spectacle.
The heart of the thermal zone is the HEXAGON® sauna, where curated rituals transform heat and steam into a choreographed performance. Here, the “sauna master” becomes a conductor of sensations – orchestrating cycles of warmth, light, sound, and scent in carefully structured ceremonies. These events are designed not only to rejuvenate but to transport the visitor – physically and emotionally.
The vitality pools are designed in the spirit of The Great Gatsby – glittering, symmetrical, and indulgent. Ornamentation and architectural clarity coexist in a setting that celebrates the excess and elegance of the 1920s, while the soft shimmer of water and gold invites a deeper sense of luxurious stillness.
This sauna area is not simply part of a wellness center. It is a site-specific art installation, an immersive narrative told through architecture, texture, and image. It pays tribute to the genius loci – the spirit of Stalowa Wola – while inviting guests into a space where body, mind, and art are inextricably intertwined.
It is a place to pause, to feel, and to reflect. A space where modernism meets mythology, and where the pursuit of beauty becomes a sensory pilgrimage. Visitors leave not only refreshed, but subtly transformed – touched by a story that began almost a century ago, and still resonates through every detail of this unforgettable interior.
