Poly Changzhou – Palace of Light by Shanghai PTArchitects

Overview

Located in Zhonglou District, Changzhou, Jiangsu, the project has heavy foot traffic. In such noisy environment, the design team had an intention of creating a “tranquil” isolated land with still water and natural light.

The design of the layout takes cues from local cultural landmark—Red Plum Pavilion in Tianning Temple, featuring a pool enclosed by the buildings. The design makes use of modern garden approaches and elements of obstructive scenery to enlarge the space in visual effects. This way to design landscape can guide visitors and make them appreciate various scenes.

The L-shaped main body of the building is closely intersected with the landscape. The corridor is covered by awnings and the exterior walls play a role as screen walls of landscape. The holistic building adopts glass, stone and metal wrapping. Large areas of folding door on the ground floor maximize the exposure of the interior and introduce the natural light, water landscape into the interior.
