Growing With The Terraces

Overview
Inspired by the terraced tea fields of Rushan, the project reinterprets the relationship between landscape, agriculture, and local culture as a contemporary architectural experience. Rather than placing a singular object upon the site, the architecture grows with the terrain. A series of stepped platforms rise gradually along the hillside, echoing the rhythm of the surrounding tea terraces and creating a continuous journey between landscape, exhibition, and public life.
The tea leaf becomes a second layer of inspiration. Its organic outline informs the overall composition, while its delicate veins are translated into a lightweight timber structural system. The branching wooden framework supports a series of translucent roofs, allowing daylight to filter through and creating an architecture that feels light, open, and closely connected to nature.
By transforming the terrace into spatial organization and the tea leaf into architectural structure, the project establishes a dialogue between cultural memory and contemporary design. Architecture becomes an extension of the landscape—a place where visitors can experience the identity of Rushan through movement, material, light, and nature.
