Overview
Falls — A Dialogue with the Landscape
Perched on the heights of Morin-Heights, Falls is conceived as a precise response to its natural surroundings. Anchored directly into the rock and supported by a substantial steel structure, the residence appears to hover above the terrain, establishing a delicate balance between strength and lightness. Its presence is both grounded and elevated, engaging in a constant dialogue with the surrounding maple canopy.
The project is defined by a controlled footprint and an expressive elevation. Elongated volumes unfold along the slope, following the natural contours of the site while minimizing disruption to the landscape. This approach preserves the integrity of the terrain while opening expansive, uninterrupted views toward the forest and beyond.
At the core of the design lies a strong connection between interior and exterior. Large openings, glazed apertures, and carefully framed sightlines allow natural light to travel through the residence, creating depth, rhythm, and continuity. Spaces are conceived as extensions of their environment, where boundaries soften and the experience of living is closely tied to the changing qualities of light and season.
Materiality reinforces this relationship to place. A restrained palette of authentic, durable materials extends seamlessly from the interior to the exterior envelope, ensuring visual and sensory coherence. Natural stone accents punctuate key architectural elements, strengthening the project’s anchoring within its context while adding texture and contrast to the overall composition.
Falls proposes a contemporary interpretation of a residence in a natural setting—an architecture that is both rigorous and sensitive. Through the clarity of its structure, the precision of its lines, and the richness of its materials, the project creates a timeless living environment shaped by light, landscape, and the quiet presence of nature.
