Overview
TEKTÔNIKA is a design-art collection that translates the raw power of geological formation into objects of everyday use. Its name is drawn directly from tectonic plates, the slow, invisible movements beneath the earth's surface whose friction and collision eventually give rise to entirely new landscapes. The collection treats furniture-making the same way: as a controlled collision of solid, rigid, and robust elements, fused together until a new form emerges. Each piece is conceived as evidence of a transformation that happened quietly, out of sight, before being brought into the light.
Formally, TEKTÔNIKA stages a dialogue between two vocabularies that rarely meet head-on: the geometry of classical architecture, arches, columns, curves, and friezes, and the organic, unruly lines of nature. That tension extends into surface treatment. Every piece combines multiple finishes on the same stone: deep-carved textures, costaneira (natural cleft), levigado (honed smoothness), and frisado (machine-fluted ridges) sit side by side, so that a single object reads simultaneously as raw and refined, ancestral and engineered. The result is intended to move beyond the purely visual. The pieces are conceived to be extra-sensorial, inviting touch as much as sight.
The collection was created for SP-Arte 2024 and unveiled at the fair's Bienal Pavilion. It launched with Sodalita, a blue stone veined with white, associated with intuition, emotional balance, and clarity, and has since expanded into further stone options, including Coliseu (Bronzita), a semi-precious stone with a metallic, bronze-toned shimmer linked to protection and self-confidence, and Travertino Rosso, a warm-toned calcareous stone whose reddish hues and pale veining lend timeless elegance.
TEKTÔNIKA is signed by Suite Arquitetos, with stone development and craftsmanship by Stone Marmi and De Friuli Mármores. The collaboration pairs an architecture studio's spatial and formal thinking with specialist stone ateliers' technical mastery of quarrying, cutting, and finishing. A partnership that allowed the collection to explore an unusually wide range of stones and surface treatments within a single coherent design language.
Beyond function, TEKTÔNIKA positions itself as an art-design collection: objects meant to exceed utility and speak to a broader cultural and psychological moment, tapping into a kind of collective unconscious around transformation, pressure, and renewal. The fused blocks that define each piece are a direct formal echo of tectonic plates meeting, a reminder that some of the most significant transformations, in nature and in humanity alike, begin as forces that are felt long before they are seen. In bringing Brazilian stone, classical architectural memory, and contemporary craftsmanship together, TEKTÔNIKA offers a distinctly Brazilian voice within the language of authorial, material-driven design.
The pieces:
Nazca & Scotia — a pair of stone stools (40 × 37 × h.38 cm and 37 × 37 × h.38 cm) that fuse classical architectural volumes with organic, weathered surfaces. Available in Caribbean Green, Emerald Green, Travertino Bruto, Sodalita, and Coliseu, each stool becomes a distinct object depending on the stone chosen — the same silhouette reinterpreted through material.
Relevo — a credenza (158 × 54 × h.81 cm) built from interlocking blocks of different stones, including Travertino Costaneira, Travertino Bruto, and Magnific White Deep. Its construction makes the contrast between natural and technological finishes the literal structure of the piece.
Placa — a series of four coffee tables (ranging from 120 × 72 × h.40 cm to 127 × 75 × h.42 cm), each mixing arches, columns, and organic lines with contrasting rough and machine-worked stone surfaces. No two are alike; each is conceived as a unique work rather than a reproducible edition.
